Stubbs, Cole, Breedlove, Prentis & Biggs, P.L.L.C. is now the oldest Durham law firm practicing today.
In 1932, Allston J. Stubbs began his law practice in Durham. For three decades, Mr. Stubbs developed a law practice concentrating on residential and commercial real estate transactions and representing banking and commercial institutions - areas of legal expertise that were strengthened when C. Thomas Biggs and James A. Cole Jr. joined with him in the 1960s.
This new partnership grew in the years that followed, maintaining an emphasis on real estate transactions and representation of banking institutions while broadening the practice into all areas of civil law and limited areas of criminal law.
Throughout its growth, Stubbs Cole has remained committed to the belief that rendering legal representation is about more than resolving a single issue, it is about building long-term relationships with clients. From buying a first home to dealing with the death of a family member, these attorneys believe in providing legal counsel for any matter arising in the lives of their clients.
The firm's current areas of practice include civil and criminal trial law with special emphasis in the areas of banking, business law, corporate, commercial transactions, commercial real estate, residential real estate, wills and estates, trusts, construction, bankruptcy, family law, and personal injury law.
This scope of expertise has earned Stubbs, Cole, Breedlove, Prentis & Biggs the trust and respect of major clients that range from regional banks and pharmaceutical distributors to real estate developers and builders.
The firm's commitment to excellence in legal representation is mirrored in its dedication to the Durham Community. With a considerable number of native residents among its membership, the firm is more than a provider of legal services, it is an investor in the Durham community.
